June was the best month you have ever had and July was almost empty, and now you are frightened of good months.
That is the thing nobody warns you about. You expected the quiet to be hard, and it was, and it passed. What you did not expect was the thing it left behind, which is that you cannot now enjoy a good week without a small voice saying, and what comes after this.
So you have ended up in the strangest position available to anybody, which is dreading both directions. Bad months are difficult and good months are now a warning.
And it is not superstition and you know it is not. You are not secretly afraid God is punishing you for doing well. It is simpler and more ordinary than that: your nervous system learned a pattern in two months and it has not unlearned it.
I am not going to tell you how to make the months steady, because that would be strategy and there is none of it on this site. And I am not going to tell you what August does. I am going to talk about a sentence Paul got in answer to a prayer that was not granted.
My strength is made perfect in weakness
There is an answer Paul receives after asking three times for something to be taken away, and the answer is not the thing he asked for.
He wanted a situation removed. What he got instead was a sentence about where strength actually shows up.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9, King James Version)
You are held by something that does not rise and fall with the month, and it has never once been measured by your best week. 2 Corinthians 12:9 puts the sufficiency in grace rather than in circumstances and locates strength in the weak place, and the Holy Spirit is the one who brings that to a kitchen table with a diary open and two mugs on it.
Notice what he did not get. The thing was not removed. He asked three times, which Scripture records, and the answer was a sentence rather than a change.
And notice where the strength is said to be perfected. In weakness. Not after the weakness, not instead of it. In it, which means the quiet month was not a gap between two periods of God being present.
You have grace that was sufficient in July, and it has never once been sized to the month. The Spirit of God is the one who makes an answer given to a man who asked three times reach a woman looking at her own diary, and 2 Corinthians 12:9 puts the strength in the weak place rather than on the other side of it.
Two months is enough to teach a pattern
Let me say what happened in your head, because it is not a spiritual failure and treating it as one will not help.
You had a high and then a low, directly adjacent, and your mind did what minds do, which is draw a line between two points and call it a rule. It takes two instances. That is all a mind needs to start predicting, and it does not consult you about it.
You were never punished for a good month, and nothing in July has ever once been about June. The Holy Spirit is the one who shows a woman what her own mind did with two data points, and the written word puts the sufficiency of grace outside the circumstances in 2 Corinthians 12:9.
And here is what it costs, and it is the reason this is worth dealing with. A good month is no longer receivable. When one comes, and they do come, it gets spent braced, and a good month spent braced is not actually received by anybody.
That is a real loss. It is not as loud as an empty July and it is bigger.
You are able to receive a good month when it arrives, and receiving it has never once invited anything. His Spirit is the one who unhooks two months from each other in a woman's mind, and 2 Corinthians 12:9 makes grace the constant rather than the weather.
Say it, then work
So here is the exercise, and it is one sentence and one dull task.
Say out loud that a good month is not a warning. Exactly that, in your own voice, in the kitchen. June was not the cause of July.
You are able to say that out loud, and saying it has never once been tempting anything. 2 Corinthians 12:9 puts the sufficiency in grace rather than in the sequence of months, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes one plain sentence possible for a woman who has been braced since July.
Say it again when a good week starts, which is when you will actually need it. The sentence is not for today, it is a thing you are putting in your own mouth now so that it is there in October.
Then do one ordinary piece of the work that nobody has asked for yet. Not something to secure the next month. Just the work, done today.
You were never asked to manage the sequence, and it has never once been yours to hold. The Spirit of God carries a plain sentence past a pattern two months long, and the written word puts the strength in the weak place in 2 Corinthians 12:9 rather than in the good stretch.
So here is what I believe is going out over somebody today.
You are held by grace that does not rise and fall, and a good month has never once been a warning. I am not telling you what August does and I am not going to suggest a way of steadying anything. 2 Corinthians 12:9 has a man ask three times for a situation to be removed and receive a sentence instead, and that sentence puts the strength in the weak place, and it is the Holy Spirit and not my saying so who turns that from an answered prayer into one thing said out loud in a spare room.
And this, which is the word I came with. You have permission to receive a good month, and receiving one has never once invited anything to follow it. The written word puts the sufficiency in grace and the strength in weakness in 2 Corinthians 12:9, and the Spirit of God is the one who unhooks two months from each other today. A quiet month is not God going quiet, and He is not honored by me being afraid of my own good months.
Say it. Then do the dull thing.
Declare this over yourself
- Dread that arrives when a good week starts, you were never wisdom and you are not staying. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says His grace is sufficient, so by the Holy Spirit I say a good month is not a warning in the name of Jesus.
- Line my own mind drew between two months, you have no place in my kitchen. The written word puts the strength in the weak place and not on the other side of it, and by His Spirit I am done spending a good month braced.
- Father, You answered a man who asked three times with a sentence rather than a change, and the sentence was enough. Your word says my grace is sufficient for thee, so by Your Spirit I say it out loud today, and then I do one ordinary piece of work.
2 Corinthians 12:9
